Wash Stations

At Lewis Creek Farm, Hank Bissel has discovered the advantages rinsing greens in shallow plastic livestock troughs raised on Cinder blocks to ergonomic perfection.

They are light and easily washable, and due to the shallow rinse water, allow you to easily inspect all you wash. Instead of multiple rinses, Hank used the long shallow trough filled and treated with produce grade Clorox, to achieve clean greens with long shelf-life.

???????????????????????????????The trough tank works like and “assembly” line, where leafy greens from the field are dumped into one end of the tank and then gently agitated and slowly progressed and to the other end of the tank.

As the greens move through the tank adhered dirt falls to the bottom, and they are clean by the time they are removed at the other end .
